Official Opening the Jubilee Suit

Halwill Parish Hall Extension Opened!

On Saturday 24th November, Halwill Parish Hall's new extension - The Jubilee Suite - was officially opened by Councillor Barry Parsons and the Chair of the Halwill Hall Development Group, Pennie Channing. Villagers young and old came to share in the celebration with a complimentary 'afternoon tea'. The Suite will be the new home for the outstanding village pre-school group, 'Scallywags', and will also be used as a much needed meeting room and additional function room. This will provide more opportunities to generate income for the Parish Hall, which can be re-invested to make continuous improvements.

The project, costing almost £95,000 was part-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for European Development 2007-2013; Europe investing in rural areas, with Defra as the Managing Authority. Other funds have been provided by Halwill Parish Council; Scallywags Pre-School; The Devon County Councillor Grant Scheme (Barry Parsons); Halwill Hall Development Group (local fundraising); The Garfield Weston Charitable Foundation and The Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation.

Fourteen winning ticket holders for a fundraising 'Grand Draw' were also there to be presented with their prizes, including £100 cash and prizes donated by Ashbury Country Club, South West Lakes, various local theme parks and Premier Foods (Ambrosia). The draw raised over £1,600, which included match funding of £750 from Barclays PLC as part of their Barclays Community Investment 'Charity begins at work' programme. One of Barclay's employees, Sue Isaac from the Holsworthy Branch, was involved with running the draw as a committee member of the Hall Development Group.
