A Trek in the Himalayas

trek

20th November 2012.

A Trek in the Himalayas - A talk by Howard Wills of Fernwood Nursery, Petersmarland nr Torrington.

This talk has had a very positive response from club members who attended.

It was an excellent, well illustrated talk relating a trek through Nepal. The start point was in the hectic but colourful city of Katmandu, with its markets and lethal looking electricity cables, right through to a slide of a glacier grinding its way past Annapurna base camp high up in the mountains.

Howard showed us slides of the spectacular, diverse scenery with high mountains and lowland villages, as well as the variety of guest 'tea' houses he stayed in on the way. Again, these were all illustrated with ample photos of the food, accommodation and facilities. Plants were recorded on the way when time allowed.

This was obviously 'a trip of a lifetime' with unique cultural exposure and experience and club members enjoyed sharing it.
